Photography

If you want to sell on a consistent basis, you must have pictures that accompany your ad or sales copy.  If you are leaning towards opening a web site or e commerce store, having good quality pictures is essential.  If you are leaning in the auction direction, you can get away with lesser quality but only up to a point.  People are used to finding pictures that are “not perfect” on Ebay, but they want the quality to improve if you are trying to portray yourself as a trusted seller.

I started out with less than a mega pixel camera, but that was about as good as it got back then.  You can do some amazing things with just a 3 megapixel camera today.  You do not need to buy the trendy 9 and 10 megapixels to get the results required for e commerce.  What I would spend my money on is good lighting.

Setup

A good setup is essential to good results.  If you have a place with great natural light, you will be ahead of the game.  If not, you will have to create the best lighting environment that you can.  The location needs to be consistent so that your photos are consistent.  This is where I would recommend you do some more research below.  There are a lot of resources that are much more qualified to explain the essence of lighting and picture editing.

Hint: All you need is a decent digital camera and the software that comes with it.  Try and choose a place that is a dedicated spot for your photo work.
