The Anatomy of an Idea

by Admin on April 10, 2009

So how do you develop an idea?  The eternal question.  I look at ideas as a start to something bigger.  Ideas always start one way and then manage to transform themselves into something else.  In a way its a fascinating process.  If you are wise you pull some other people into the process, it really gets exciting.

If look at the process it looks something like this:

First concept

Concept gets adjusted for packaging

You research similar items that are offered by drop
shippers to see availability and to size up
what competitor sells

You readjust concept to compete with competitors
offering better features and marketing

You build steps to creating the system for
manufacturing the product.

You may not take all these steps exactly, but the excercise is to show you how to get into the mindset of building or creating a better widget.  Using competition is like getting a leg up on them.  You can analyze weaknesses  and use them to your advantage.  If you are entering a market where a lot of sellers sell the same thing, bringing something fresh will help the entire market sector and stimulate demand all on its own.
